Whalley, Ribble Valley
Ballet
Classical ballet continues to be at the heart of solid dance training and has defined the foundation techniques used in other dance genres. The ISTD syllabus focuses on encouraging a sound basic technique and an understanding of musical interpretation to provide the essentials of pure classical training. We aim to teach our pupils the fundamentals of ballet through structured, positive and fun teaching, capturing their love of dance forever!
Classes are available for pupils at every level within our school, from preschool to seniors.
We also offer non-syllabus ballet, pointe prep & pointe work classes to further our pupils classical technique and to compliment their training to prepare our pupils for more exams. Classes are available for pupils from grade 3 level & upwards.
Modern
Modern dance is often seen on the stages of musical theatre productions and is known for its theatrical qualities. The style uses travelling steps, high kicks, leaps and turns which all need strength and flexibility. This is a highly energetic dance style, which develops versatility and an introduction to other popular dance styles such as: jazz, lyrical, contemporary, commercial and many more…
Classes are available for pupils from age 5 +.
Tap
Tap Dance is an exciting, percussive, rhythmical dance form. The dancer uses their feet to strike the floor, beating out a melody, with tap shoes which have small metal plates on the toe and heel to give the distinctive sound. Tap dance is a theatrical art form often seen on screen and stage in musicals.
Classes are available for pupils from preschool level upwards.
Acrobatic Arts
The acrobatic arts syllabus was developed with input from professionals and experts in ballet, modern dance, jazz, contortion, artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, yoga, pilates, physiotherapy, hand balancing and more, which is why it is proving to be so successful. These classes help to develop strength and flexibility by following logical and effective progressions, which lead to more sophisticated skills as training progresses. These are highly popular classes with our pupils who love the challenges, rewards and fun this genre offers.
Classes are available from age 5 +.
Jazz
Jazz dance is often seen on stages in musical theatre productions, music videos and other various performances. These classes explore travelling steps seen in the graded modern classes, and using them in free combinations and choreography. We aim to encourage our pupils to build their confidence and explore their own style and originality as they progress, widening their vocabulary and versatility if they wish to pursue a career in dance/performing.

Stretch & Conditioning
Stretch & Conditioning classes compliment the pupils training to develop their technique, strength and flexibility as they progresses through the grades. We aim to support our pupils as their body changes through puberty to minimise risk of injury in a safe environment, providing our pupils with exercises and support needed as they grow.
Classes are available for pupils from grade 3 level & upwards.
Commercial
Commercial dance is often seen in music videos, concerts, TV shows, films, advertisements, and West End productions. These classes explore learning routines in varying commercial styles and we encourage our pupils to use lots of energy and precision to reflect the style of the choreography.
Classes are available for pupils age 11 +
Contemporary
Contemporary dance is an important genre of dance performed in societies around the world, celebrated by people both young and old. Developed during the 20th century, contemporary dance involves incorporating aspects of movement from several other genres such as jazz, modern and ballet. Our classes will explore the use of Breathe & Relaxation as well looking into various contemporary practitioners such as Martha Graham & Merce Cunningham.
Classes are available for pupils age 11 + and who are studying ballet at Grade 3 or above
